Akira begins 31 years after WWIII destroyed
most of the world's major cities. The story takes place in what was Tokyo, which was wiped out by a mysterious super bomb. Neo-Tokyo now stands where Tokyo once had been. The motorcycle gang of "healthy,
juvenile delinquents" race through the city led by Kaneda.
Keneda and his motorcycle gang have an accident one night with a strange but old looking boy, Takashi.
One of the gang members, a boy named Tetsuo, crashes in to the young boy. Tetsuo is taken away by an unknown military agency, while the mysterious boy is unharmed and vanishes. During his hospitalization,
a military Colonel and a doctor discover Tetsuo's own hidden power and transfer him into the laboratory to perform power awakening experiments. Unkown to the gang members, Tetsuo becomes involved in a
secret military project to create human weapons with supernatural powers. Members of a terroristic group are trying to uncover and destroy the military's secret plans. While being a part of the military
project, Tetsuo becomes too powerful and he learns of a mysterious mutant named Akira that was once part of the project. Something had gone terribly wrong with Akira, and everyone is afraid of what might
happen if Akira's power and knowledge is discovered once again.
Caught amongst the dangerous mystery are Keneda and his friends. All that they wanted to do was have some fun without getting into any kind of real trouble, but trouble always seems to find them! Now, the
survival of Earth is dependent on Kaneda, Kay, the Colonel, Takashi, and the battle of wills with Tetsuo.
Akira is definitely one of the best Japanese Animations ever! The story is a little hard to understand for anime newcomers at times, but it is still a very good Japanese Anime! The animation quality
and detail is totally amazing!! I highly recommend Akira to all Japanese Animation newcomers! A definite must see Japanese Animation!!
